Devastavit

“Devastavit” is a legal term that refers to the mismanagement or misuse of assets by an executor or administrator of an estate. When someone is appointed to handle the affairs of a deceased person’s estate, they have a legal duty to manage and distribute the assets responsibly. If the executor or administrator fails in this duty, for example, by wasting or misappropriating the assets, it is known as “devastavit.”

This concept usually arises in the context of probate law, where the executor or administrator is responsible for settling the debts of the deceased person and distributing the remaining assets to the heirs or beneficiaries. If it is discovered that the executor has acted improperly, the court may hold them personally liable for the financial losses suffered by the estate. Legal actions related to devastavit are aimed at recovering the value of the misused or misappropriated assets.
