Form A1 – Application about Whether the Act Applies in Ontario
The form, titled “Application about Whether the Act Applies,” is designed for tenants and landlords to request a determination from the Board on the applicability of the Residential Tenancies Act 2006 to their rental unit or residential complex.
It outlines a three-part application process, including general information about the parties and the rental property, reasons for the application regarding the Act’s applicability, and signature requirements. Additional sections cover requests for French-language services or other accommodations, along with instructions on application fee payment and the importance of providing accurate information.
To fill out Form A1 for determining the applicability of the Residential Tenancies Act 2006 to a rental unit or residential complex, follow these steps:

- Complete All Three Parts
- Part 1: Provide general information about the rental unit, your contact details, and any unresolved applications related to the unit.</li
- Part 2: Explain why you believe the Act applies or does not apply to your situation. Be specific about the premises and your reasoning.
- Part 3: Sign the form and include your representative’s contact information if applicable.
- Complete All Three Parts
- Request for French-Language Services or Accommodation: If needed, complete the relevant section to request additional services at the hearing.
- Submission: File all pages (except the instruction page) with the Board and pay the application fee of $53. Payment can be made via money order, certified cheque, or credit card (but not by cash or debit card if filing by mail or courier).
- Documentation: Attach any additional sheets or documents as necessary to support your application.
