Chain of Title

The “chain of title” is the historical sequence of documented ownership transfers of a particular piece of real estate. It traces the ownership history of a property from the present owner back to the original owner or as far back as records are available. Each link in this chain represents a transfer of ownership, typically documented through deeds, wills, or other legal instruments.
