Crown Patent

A “Crown patent” is a legal document issued by a government, representing the sovereign authority (referred to as “the Crown”), that grants ownership of land to an individual or entity. This document is the original title deed that transfers land from the government (or Crown) to private ownership. In jurisdictions with a history of British colonial rule, such as Canada and certain other Commonwealth countries, a Crown patent is the first and most authoritative evidence of private land ownership.
